So, I just got back about an two hours ago from the Premier of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I figured I would critique and give a little review of my own about my opinion on the movie. First off, the opening scenes of the movie were pretty intense and satisfactory. I really enjoyed it but I could not help but compare the opening scenes to the first chapter of the book. I mean, for one, how can you just cut out the two ministers meeting? Ministers being plural and by plural Im meaning the Minister for the Muggles and the Minster of Magic for the Wizarding world. I found this part of the book to be crucial because its letting us know that these two worlds secretly coincide with one another by political and secretive means.
Secondly, as the movie progressed on, I was trying my damndest to not compare this movie to the book and I almost succeeded. A lot of things were rearranged, changed, and pissed me off, which is nothing new considering the directors/producers/ writers have a tendency to butcher this entire franchise. I honest to god want to smack the hell out of all three areas that helped make the movie possible. Surprisingly enough, the Order of the Phoenix was semi better than The Half-Blood Prince!
One thing I was looking forward to was the battle inside of Hogwarts. Professor McGonagall was supposed to kick some major ass along with Neville and Numerous students. Hundreds of death eaters were supposed to have come out of the Vanishing Cabinet and raid the school. I was upset by this not happening because I was waiting for McGonagall to kick ass. Although, given the fact that Dame Maggie Smith is getting up there in years, does not surprise me as to why this was cut out.
Last but certainly not least, Dumbledores death scene was entirely wrong, not to mention the are where he was supposed to die was in Hogsmead. How can you change that!? Harry was bounded by Petrificus Totalus and covered with the invisibility cloak because Dumbledore was hiding him from the Death Eaters. The Killing Curse did not kill Dumbledore until he hit the ground in which lifted the spell off of Harry and his Death was more emotional in the book. I honestly do not understand why the hell these movies can not live up to the book?
The ending of the movie was horrendous because not only was Fawks flying in the air but Harry, Hermione, and Ron were in the Astronomy Tower looking out into the sunset. Ok, so in the book there was a HUGE Funeral Service for Dumbledore and the outcome was amazing. The Mermaids came up to sing, the Centaurs paid their respects, and the Faculty and Student body were all mourning his death. This was a crucial part in the movie because it showed the Elder Wand being buried with him as well. It was NOT in the god damned office!
So all in all, this movie disappointed me greatly. I know I should have just forgotten about the book all together but considering my fanatic with Harry Potter, I have a right to be pissed. For those who have yet to read the book, I highly recommend that you do not pick it up because you will be pissed just as much as I am.
Given the fact that Ive bitched and moaned about the movie, Bellatrix Lestrange is one of my favorite characters. Helena Bonham Carter does an amazing job with the portrayal and theirs a specific scene that I love the most. I wont give it away for those who have yet to see it, even though Ive given away some scenes here and there through out this rant.
I may as well go re-read the seventh book in hopes they do it justice due to them cutting it into two movies.
